Rick Anderson, Keynote Speaker
University Librarian 
Brigham Young University

Rick Anderson is the University Librarian at Brigham Young University. He earned his B.S. and M.L.I.S. degrees at Brigham Young University. He came to BYU from the University of Utah where he was serving as Associate Dean for Collections & Scholarly Communication in the J. Willard Marriott Library. He has worked previously as a bibliographer for YBP, Inc., as Head Acquisitions Librarian for the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and as Director of Resource Acquisition at the University of Nevada, Reno. He serves on numerous editorial and advisory boards and is a regular contributor to the Scholarly Kitchen blog. A collection of his essays titled Libraries, Leadership and Scholarly Communication was published in 2016 by ALA Editions, and his book Scholarly Communication: What Everyone Needs to Know was published in 2018 by Oxford University Press. In 2005, Rick was identified by Library Journal as a “Mover & Shaker” – one of the “50 people shaping the future of libraries.” In 2008 he was elected president of the North American Serials Interest Group, and he was named an ARL Research Library Leadership Fellow for 2009-10. In 2013 Rick was the recipient of the HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award and was the Gould Distinguished Lecturer on Technology and the Quality of Life at the University of Utah. In 2015 he was elected President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing. He is a popular speaker on subjects related to the future of scholarly communication and research libraries.


Margaret Henderson, CE Course Instructor

Margaret Henderson, MLIS, AHIP, is Health Sciences Librarian, and part of the research data services team, at San Diego State University. Previously, she worked at Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries for 11 years, first at a Research and Education Librarian in the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, and then as Director, Research Data Management. Margaret has over 30 years experience as a biomedical librarian. She has given lectures and written papers about data and biomedical sciences librarianship and the future of the field. Margaret is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, and is the author of “Data Management: A Practical Guide for Librarians”, published by Rowman & Littlefield in November 2016.


Teresa L. Knott, Hospital Librarians Symposium
Interim Dean of Libraries and University Librarian
Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences

As Director of Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, Knott serves as VCU Libraries’ leader on the MCV Campus. She works to forge and continuously strengthen relationships with academic leaders and researchers in the schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, along with the College of Health Professions and with clinical care leadership from VCU Health to ensure that library resources and librarian expertise constantly evolve and improve to meet the needs of education, clinical care and research best practices.

Distinguished among health sciences librarians, Knott is an active contributor in professional circles. In 2016-17, she served as president of the Medical Library Association, which represents more than 3,000 health sciences information professional members and partners around the world. And, for 2017-18, she served as a mentor in the Leadership Fellows Program, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries.


Fred Lapolla, CE Course Instructor
Research and Data Librarian
New York University

Fred LaPolla is a member of NYU Health Sciences Library’s Data Services team and liaison to the Departments of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation (DGIMCI) and Radiology. Fred also teaches Rigor and Reproducibility and R Programming in the Grossman School of Medicine Graduate Biomedical Sciences Institute. He is passionate about professional education and finding ways to facilitate learning around data collection, management, visualization and analysis.



Tony Nguyen, NNLM/SEA Update
Executive Director
National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region

Tony Nguyen is the Executive Director for the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Southeastern Atlantic Region in the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he oversees the Regional Medical Library program. He is an active member of MLA serving as Leadership Curriculum Committee Chair.




Lisa Traditi, MLA Update
President
Medical Library Association

Lisa Traditi, Associate Professor and Deputy Director, was a hospital librarian for 9 years in the Denver metro area before joining the faculty of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Library in 1996. In addition to being the 2020-21 MLA President, Lisa is a two-times past chair of the Midcontinental Chapter of MLA and an advisory board member for the University of Denver School of Library and Information Science. She received her Master’s in Library Science from the University of Arizona and is a Distinguished member of the Medical Library Association's Academy of Health Information Professionals. In addition, Lisa is:

  • The local co-coordinator for Supporting Clinical Care: An Institute in Evidence-Based Practice for Medical Librarians;
  • A chapter contributor for Evidence-Based Practice: An Implementation guide for healthcare organizations, published in 2011; the MLA Guide to Managing Health Care Libraries, published in 2011; and Nursing Research Secrets, published in 2003; and
  • A recipient of the CCML Marla Graber Award and the MCMLA Bernice Hetzner Award.
  • An avid camper, spending almost every weekend from May through September somewhere in the Rocky Mountains with her husband, Frank.
